Apple’s and frozen pie

A few weeks ago on Facebook there was a statement thrown out saying ‘man I wish I could freeze apples’ WELL for about 4 years now I have been doing just that. I tryied to explain how I do it and then thought it might be easier to write about it!:) SOO here I go!

After you purchased (or pick them) and you have them ready to go.. wash and then start peeling them (I got this peeler from my mom when I got married -but its from Pamper Chef)

I then use a big bowl and throw them in there…

All the peel’s and cores i throw away (or my kids eat them and call them snakes!:)

Then I gather my supplies.. for either pies or apple sauce.. I am making two pies today… one to freeze for Thanksgiving (one week from today) and one for tomorrow.

Since I am making two I will double my recipe .. I have done up to 5 pies at one time… this way.. SOO much easier to get a bulk done instead of doing it every time you want a pie…

After I measure I pour in and then shake up the seasonings…

IMG_20131120_094412_502Sorry for the quality of pictures…my phone is what I had handy..

Then the shaking…..

After I finish (or one of the cutest kids ever!!) I lay my pie pan out and line it with foil.. enough to cover the ENTIRE pie with one piece.. this will gave you when you take it out of the freezer later

IMG_20131120_095400_428

Then I place the ENTIRE pan and pie mix into the freezer for about 24 hours.. this will make the pie the shape of the pan and when it is frozen i can place it in a ziploc bag and then when i am ready to cook it i just take the foil off and line the pie with crust (bottom and top)  and the pie mixture fits perfect.

This makes it SOO easy!!

Here is our recipe.. Kent Family recipe passed down!! ENJOY!

Apple Pie

this recipe below makes ONE pie in a regular pie pan..

3lbs Apple’s (any kind)

1/4 cup flour

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

3/4 brown & white sugar mixture

“mix all above except apples.

Spray pie pan add crust

Mix the ‘mix’ into the apples, pour into pan.

Cut up 1/2 stick of butter (into chunks) lay around pie

Add top crust.. make 4 slits

rub egg white on hands then rub onto pie top

SPRINKLE with sugar

BAKE at 250 for 2.5 3 hours

(YES this seems low heat and a long time but thats the key!!)

Even if you bring it straight from the freezer the time and heat are the same!!

ENJOY!

Why I married HIM…

Unlike what you are thinking this post isn’t to Boast or brag about my AMAZING Superman.. Although don’t get me wrong he is ‘AMAZING’:) It is more a post about why…. let me explain!

DSC02162

When we got married 8.5 years ago I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was the man I was called to marry.. NO there wasn’t a (insert deep voice-from God) “MARRY HIM JESSICA!” but there WAS a peace.. The event surrounding our courtship (of 6 months) and then engagement was anything less than fun. Lots of ‘important people’ had many different opinions. Without going into all that, (its a story for another time!:) We decided to move forward and marry.

I knew I loved him and that God had brought us together. I had always wanted a man who loved me 2nd.. yes 2nd  to God. And He did. I would always be first when it comes to this world but 2nd when it came to God. To me that was more than I could ever dreamed or hope for.

Now 8.5 years later, a drastic move (3 months after marrying), no family close, 3.5 kids, and a home we are here.. (whatever that mean..) living life together. Now there are no roses or chocolate everyday and some days are hard. But we had a short mini conversation last week that lead to this post…..

Our financial status has changed.. well not really but it seems like it has.. the ends meet but with nothing left to spare. (BECAUSE WE SERVE A GREAT GOD! DUH!) But as he and I were in the kitchen talking about how the $ just isnt there.. i looked over and said.. “well at least we have each other!”

What I mean by that is .. statically couples fight over money and the lack or abundance of it. Who spends what, why they spend it ect.. I can honestly say we have never fought over money.. why?!? Well for one we trust the other person and we share the same Financial goals personally, and as a family. These two things make a huge impact!

The old saying ‘you cant live on love alone’…. well i disagree.. Love is what keeps us focused and together.. if we didn’t ‘love’ each other this season would have been EXTRA (or really that much) hard-er. We may not have but 17 cents in our bank account.. but TOGETHER (because we love and respect each other) will do whatever it takes to make it work for OUR family! Not give up or quitting ..instead be willing to fight for it.

There has been many sacrifices made over the past 3-5 months.. but we are still inlove and making it.. not by our own but because we listened to God and followed him as he lead us to each other..

NOW i started this posted with.. Why I married Him.. to finished it would be ‘because I know without a doubt God placed him in my life to LIVE life and because I LOVED him…”

I would must rather be POOR and inlove than Rich and not.. that is just me!!

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

Family Fall Festival

For October 31st this year we wanted to do something fun and exciting.. not for any reason, just because:) We know the world would be trick or treating and we (not for any crazy reason) don’t do that, but wanted to have a fun memory…. SOO we thought what would our kids love.. we could

  • pack them up and drive to a trunk or treat
  • go to some city square and walk business to business
  • sit at home as a normal night

Since all those (well the first two are out- and the last one LAME)  were out of the question I came up with a family night.. but not the normal dinner and a movie.. instead something more exciting!! THUS the Kent Family Fall Festival was created!!

Image

First we had a fun dinner (our family favorite) homemade subs, chips (RARE treat), and pumpkin fluff. Then with a quick clean up Superman pulled our kiddy pool out (to help with the possible mess with 3 kids under 6) and a small tote filled with luke warm water… Then each child picked an apple and dropped it in… The little two had never played so it was fun watching them … Superman went first and was a bit nervous (DONT ASK WHY!?!? 🙂 then each one attempted IT WAS A BLAST! laughing and enjoying each child as they figured out their way of doing it.. Brother was the only one of the kids who got it with out ‘assistance’ haha! Baby and Taco used their hands!:) Next up pumpkin bowling…..

Image

Next up we had planned a pumpkin bowling activity.. a little more low key (which was great due to bedtime approaching). We stacked our ‘pins’ and prepared our mini pumpkin and each had a turn (or 2 or 3!!) at rolling the pumpkin! It was a fun!! Towards the end the stack changed shapes which was fun (tall tower, 2 mini towers ect) .. but the goal was family fun and i think without a doubt this was a HIT!

I am thinking it might possibly be a new annual even for us Kent’s!!

Did you do anything ‘different’ for Oct 31st??
